When it comes to putting together the perfect travel style look, there are a few things I take into consideration: Will I be comfortable in this outfit? Will I wear any of these items during my trip? How much space would these pieces take up in my suitcase?
While everyone wants to look stylish when they travel, I equally want to be comfortable and functional. So here are four tips I practice to get me traveling in style.
Layers, Layers, Layers
Your travel day look should be all about layers – especially if you’re trying to make the most of your carry-on space. I typically travel with three layers of clothing on me: a top, a cardigan or duster and a coat of some sort. Getting creative with layers not only creates a really dimensional look but it also gives you options for warmth throughout your travel day journey.
Pick a functional and four-wheel carry-on suitcase and a large tote for your things. Make them stylish by keeping them neutral and complimenting in color. I always like to travel with a carry-on packed with essential items I can’t live without in the unlikely case my checked bag gets lost. A sturdy and loose tote bag is great for your laptop and other electronics, as well as your liquids, makeup, socks and any other grab-and-go items.
When In Doubt, Wear Black
I’m pretty sure this tip can apply to life in general but it also works for travel style. You can never go wrong with centering around black for your travel day look. Almost anything you layer will compliment your black basics and you’ll look chic no matter where on the map you’re headed.
Comfort Is Everything
While comfort and fashion don’t always go hand-in-hand, when it comes to travel it should be the fine balance you’re looking to achieve. Whether your flight is two hours or twelve, being comfortable is so important. For me, the two biggest factors here are in my jeans and shoes. I bloat like crazy when I fly, so you will rarely see me in skinny jeans on a travel day. I also typically opt for my Adidas sneakers or black booties because they’re the most worn-in shoes I have and fortunately for me, they look good with just about anything.
