My very first New York Fashion Week experience is in full effect! We arrived on Saturday afternoon and I’ve been nonstop ever since we touched down. Here’s a look at my first outfit from the weekend and highlights from the Collina Strada presentation I attended. And make sure to scroll all the way down for a video recap of my day!
New York City has always been one of those places where I instantly feel more comfortable having my picture taken in public. No matter how many times I do this, it’s still strange to realize how many people are watching you when it’s happening. But this week, EVERYONE is doing it so you almost feel strange not stopping for the photo opp when you see one. These were taken on the steps of the United States Post Office just a quick stroll away from the shows at Moynihan Station. The energy in the city is palpable and I’m inspired by merely being here at this time.
The Collina Strada presentation was the first NYFW event I went to at 59 Chelsea Pier. Hiring an all African American cast of models, designer Hillary Taymour, showcased her SS17 ready to wear collection titled, “It Matters” to bring light to the Black Lives Matter movement. The models, dressed in neutral tones with pops of denim, emerald green and stark white, stood empowered and beautiful throughout the entire presentation; making eye contact with onlookers as if to say, “SEE ME” rather than, “see these clothes.”
All this week I’m producing :30 daily vignettes of my time in the city and at the shows. Here’s a look at day 1! Make sure to head to my YouTube channel and subscribe to watch Day 2 and all of the other videos coming this week!
