It’s hard for me to believe that next month will mark two years since Sam and I moved into our first home together. Owning a home has always been a dream for me and even after owning our’s for some time now, there are moments when it hits me all over again; like a, “Look at where life has led you” feeling.
We’ve been thinking about taking on some renovations for the kitchen and master bath – both of which are really outdated. I’m also thinking it’s time to replace the carpet in our living areas with some wood flooring. Since we work from home and have two active pups, keeping the carpet clean all of the time is difficult to maintain. I’m nervous because we’ve never done any contracting work and I know that finding a reliable person to manage everything is key. Anyone have any suggestions there?
Here are a few moments from around our home that have made me smile lately.
I seriously have so many serving trays around the house. Counting to myself, I think there are six or seven out at any given time. It’s such a perfect way to add a little dimension to a table and really elevates a party setting when serving drinks or appetizers. I also have this one in our master bedroom with a photo of Sam and I from our wedding and all of my perfumes. This particular bottle of Coco Mademoiselle will always hold a special place in my heart because it’s the first gift Sam ever gave me when we first started dating. I want this bottle to last so I only sprinkle on a spray or two for special occasions.
I. Love. Old. Luggage. I’m pretty sure every Moments At Home post I’ve shared has some sort of vintage corner from around the house. I love that these pieces once belonged to someone who used them to travel and explore, that they were once part of someone else’s everyday life. In fact, that black briefcase belonged to my grandfather and I still keep the paperwork he had inside of it. Every now and then I’ll open it up and see if there’s anything new I can discover about him.
Having fresh blooms in your home just make everything feel brighter and happier. I was very proud of myself when I put together this little bouquet from the fresh picks at Florist Fire in Hyde Park Village.
I will admit that I never once had avocado until I moved to California… when I was 25! My family did not eat avocados and it wasn’t until I was on the west coast that I discovered just how amazing they are. Now, I make my signature avocado toast every week. My recipe? Whole-grain toast with freshly smoothed avocado spread on top of it. Cook egg sunny side up until you reach desired “runny-ness”, remove and place on top of avocado. Sprinkle with paprika and freshly ground pepper.
